A Mad Man in Twitter land

It's easy and Cris and Linda Castañeda will help you if it is necessary.

A Mad Man in Twitter land

What am I doing here on a site called Twitter, which does not let me talk for more than 140 characters at a time!?
It all started in May 2008 during the first meeting of Abla Blogs Rural.
In this networking event the keynote speakers were making a very weird thing whilst the others put forward their ideas: they were tweeting! Those of us, who like to try new stuff, didn’t waste time and got ourselves immediately on twitter. We became twitters before they could say tweet! As it often is the case beginnings are tough. I quickly realised that this was a banality because no one answered my tweets. So I decided to put twitter aside for a while.
However, several months later, whilst teaching a course on social networks, Twitter started to acquire popularity. From that moment on I became more involved with it than I had expected.
What have we done on Twitter then?
Besides using it as a tool for the transmission of knowledge, consultation, debate, learning, sharing interesting links, etc., we have done some crazy things, such as:
  • launching the first twitter race in history (http://goo.gl/bdrFU) with @diegogg. The purpose was to explain how to time tweets (http://goo.gl/3oxdz), a novelty at that time.
  • playing and getting twitterers to contribute to #frasesdealumno[student quotes] (http://goo.gl/PRaBI) , #twitterpelis [twitter movies] (http://goo.gl/vf2bR ), #tuitrefranes [twitter idioms] (http://goo.gl/awiAL), #frasesdemadre [ mother quotes] (http://goo.gl/s1iUd) … as to encourage creativity.
  • using #cadeneta20, as a twitter hashtag, to gather ‘partners in crime’ (aka, the “cuchipandi”) in order to appoint @Potachov for new Secretary-General of the Educational Web through a blog post (http://goo.gl/wpk5V) which was connected to 12 other blogs.
  • Participating in and podcasting events like EABE09, EBE09, EABE10 …
  • Encouraging teachers to participate in twitter and explain them what “Potachovización” is (http://goo.gl/HC4m) as well as how this hard task carried out by our friend @pvil has improved the connection amongst many educators. Indeed, @Melchormiralles, after seeing my avatar “Potachovized”, has asked for a pair of glasses too!
  • Sharing the blogpost entitled “The ABC of Social Networks and the Internet.” (http://goo.gl/bLMsF) via twitter to see what the network would come back with.
  • Organising an “anti FollowFriday” movement (http://goo.gl/jGR8z), with @juancarikt for missing its original purpose, and developing another alternative to #followfriday called the Twitter Reports (http://goo.gl/lPoLL) , a different way of recommending people worth following.
  • Helping those who are new to Twitter by providing them with a quick “Getting Started on Twitter” handbook (http://goo.gl/gDvY) , which includes“15 tips on how to use Twitter” (http://goo.gl/pLOLE) and a TweetDeck Tutorial. (http://goo.gl/0ziJh)
  • Encouraging learners to join twitter and inspire their peers to follow their steps by using the following hashtag: #todostuvimosuncomienzo. (#everyboydhadabeginning)
  • Launching Twitfiphilosophy and Twitfoolishness in an attempt to encourage people to post spontaneous thoughts, as a way of sharing everyday life humor with the network.
  • Engaging in collaborative ventures such as the Miguel Hernandez project (http://goo.gl/5A24A) with @diegogg through the contacts made via Twitter.
  • Encouraging users to collaborate with @Olmillos and thus participate in his wallwisher on “Why using Twitter?”. (http://goo.gl/hhihK)
  • Giving “celebrities” who are using twitter a few tips so that they can ‘come down to earth’ and act as ‘ordinary’ user. (http://goo.gl/1vj51)
My latest ‘madness’: two posts (1) #MDLINTSWY (My digital Life is not the same without you) (http://goo.gl/QuIdz) , which refers to users I recommend, and (2) Twitregalos (http://goo.gl/AihQ0) (Twitpresents), which focuses on giving virtual presents, as celebrated in Spain over the Christmas period on the Three Wise Men day. (Context: As observed by the Spanish tradition, children receive their Christmas presents on the evening of January 5, as a reminder of those who came to bring presents to baby Jesus).

And, of course, finding many friends whom, little by little, I manage to devirtualize. I will not name them because I’m sure that would get you all bored, since there are quite a few. I hope that these friendships I managed to make through twitter are long lasting, as long as they don’t become aware of what my shrink says about me (http://goo.gl/BsjCK fortunately the report is only in Spanish ;-) ) .
If you follow me on Twitter, you will still be able to play your trump card and Unfollow button. Remember that madness can be contagious!

You actually make it appear really easy together with your presentation however I find this
topic to be really one thing which I believe I'd by no means understand. It sort of feels too complex and extremely huge for me. I'm
having a look forward to your subsequent post, I'll attempt to get the hold of it!
